Sadly, the footy season has come to an end for another year, meaning it is time to announce the winners of our epic Agserv footy tipping comp!
We had a huge turnout this year, with more than 150 punters taking part. There were no shortage of great prizes thanks to our sponsors Syngenta, Bayer, BASF and FMC.
Here’s a brief overview of the footy season – and names of the lucky comp winners!
NRL
2014 was a cracker of a year for Rugby League and started with the Roosters as red hot favourites to defend their 2013 title.
While it came as no surprise to see the Roosters, Sea Eagles and Cowboys do well throughout the regular season, the resurgence of the Panthers came as a shock to many (and a delight to Penrith fans!).
The year’s biggest surprise came courtesy of the Roosters who, after easily wrapping up the minor premiership, looked totally out of sorts in the finals, crashing out to an inspired South Sydney outfit.
The Bulldogs on the other hand hit form at the right time, storming through the finals and setting up a Grand Final clash with their old enemies the Rabbitohs. Despite a huge effort from the Doggies they couldn’t stop the red and green army from running away with the title, ending the Rabbitoh’s 43-year winner’s drought.
The wooden spoon for 2014 went to the Cronulla Sharks, who simply couldn’t get their act together on the field. Better luck next year, boys!

AFL
After goal kicking ace Buddy Franklin joined Sydney at the end of 2013, many picked the Swans to run away with the title this year, and their regular season form certainly looked ominous.
As defending champs, the Hawks had another strong year, as did the Geelong Cats. Unfortunately though, St. Kilda had an atrocious season, picking up their first wooden spoon since 2000.
Fremantle backed up their pre-season hype to qualify for the finals in 4th, while Richmond surprised many by storming home with 9 straight wins to snag the 8th and final spot. After the Cats and Dockers bowed out of the finals earlyit was no surprise to see the Swans and Hawks square off in the Grand Final.
The big game certainly didn’t go to plan for the red-and-white favourites. Hawthorn had their best game of the year, Sydney their worst, with Hawthorn easily running away with yet another flag. Go Hawks!!
