APVMA Anticoagulant Review
A current Anticoagulant Rodenticide review by Australia’s APVMA, highlight significant environmental and health concerns, leading to proposed bans or stricter controls, especially for Second-Generation products (SGARs) due to severe risks to native wildlife (birds, mammals) from primary and secondary poisoning, plus risks to pets, humans, and livestock. The APVMA review (ongoing in 2025/2026) aims to restrict access, limit formulations, and manage use to protect non-target species, with proposed suspensions and new regulations expected after public consultation, addressing global trends seen in the US and EU.
Public consultation on the proposed reconsideration decisions is current and will close on 16 March 2026.
Proposed outcomes include significant use restrictions for both public and professional users. Liquid and dust formulations may well be banned. External use for mice may be banned. Pack size limitations for retail users is very likely. Some of the more toxic active ingredients may be banned or severely restricted.
