Keeping up with Technology in light traps
Insect light traps have become a standard for flying insect control in commercial premises particularly food preparation areas.
Originally light traps used fluorescent bulbs to attract the insect, but there has been a gradual shift to Light Emitting Diode (LED) powered traps. Why?
LED lamps last about three times longer than fluorescent UV tubes and require significantly less electricity. Tests have shown that LEDs use about 85% less energy than a typical fluorescent tube. LEDs also fit better with industry regulations and safety requirements.
Other benefits of LED include higher quality of light, reduced maintenance costs as they don’t need to be replaced as often, and being more cost effective – all in comparison with UV fluorescent lamps that have an effective working life of about twelve months.
Agserv has been promoting the Cobra LED Flytrap for a few years now, but we are about to increase and improve our offering, particularly with the budget friendly Practika unit and the decorative front-of-house Aura LED unit, both from Pelsis.
- The Practika is an entry-level LED glueboard Light Trap, meeting the needs of hygiene compliance in low sensitivity applications. It offers:
- Low power draw, delivering up to 62% lower running costs than traditional fluorescent lamp models.
- Improved flying insect catch on traditional 30W fluorescent models.
- Simple and quick tool-free servicing.
- Improved consumable management with common glueboard configuration.
- A 3-year LED source life, for extended service times.
- Swing open and hold front guard for simple servicing.
- Aluminium construction for rust prevention and improved UV light reflection.
- Lightweight construction for simple handling and transportation.
